 went to goodwill store...for some work clothes.and wow! saw some belts for powder horns and rifle slings, pouches etc...$1.99!! there were different types....all to be re-done with leather ends and buckles and stuff.......

check your goodwill store out!

That's why I hit yard sales on a regular basis. The prices are usually more like fifty cents or a quarter.

:rotf:
Don't get out much do ya?

We have a Goodwill and a couple of Second hand stores in and around the community.

Trouble is there are about a dozen of us Rendezvous/Historical type folks that hit these stores on a regular basis.
It's Catch as Catch Can when it comes to finding something that'll work,, you need to find it before someone else does!!

That's where my powder horn strap came from, and my shooting pouch. Once in awhile a good leather purse comes through that can be re-worked.

 Any thrift type store, Salvation Army, Goodwill, etc. is a skinner/reenactors ultimate supply house. :idunno: Wool blankets $3- $7 great for making capotes, hunting shirts, linings, guncases & wraps. :hmm: Buy old, torn & damaged leather jackets and coats and cut up along the seams- various colors & either sides of leather for small bags, trimings, laces, leg ties, etc... :hmm: Draps of heavy linen is cheaper than the fabric store for bags, clothing, etc...any large canvas items can be cut up for making bags & other items (Also cheaper than a fabric store), candle holders, cast iron items, plates, bowls, eating and cooking old silver items, and so on and so on.... The only thing you can't buy there is IMAGINATION!! That you have to provide fer yerself! :rotf: Good finding. THINK  :hatsoff:

man i need to find a thrift store like yours......bout the closest thing to a primitive item i found at the store near me was an eanmeled coffee pot with flowers...lol how ever I did find a brazierre, plates , cutlery and a coffee pot adn stew pot in a box at a pawn shop.....paid 40$ for all

Kaintuk, your Goodwill store must have cheaper prices than mine LOL!They just opened a new one near us and I think the prices are way to high. They even sell brand new cheap China stuff.

Mad Irish Jack ODonnell I want your goodwill I haven't found any kind of blankets let alone wool in ours for the last 15 yrs and I hit all the ones in the surrounding city/towns as well

Anytime I'm on my time "out and about", I look for garage sales, flea markets, thrift shops, Salvation Army, Goodwill etc. They're out there, but you need to be looking and have time to stop. My wife wants nothing to do with them, so she isn't with me on "my time day trips". She does the outlet mall thing with her friends. Fine with me. Sometime the flea markets can be the place for damaged items for craft material like leather coats and jackets to cut up for small projects, linen table clothes and linen drapes for sewing shirts, pants, breeches etc. You have to have imagination when looking at these places. Looking isn't costly.
