This is the initial profile cut. It is about 1/4" long from my target 14 inches of pull.
"E. Boat, you have lost your mind!" Yeah, yeah, I did cut the top tang area into a shelf, so how am I going to set up the tang?
Save that piece of wood you cut off!
That scrap from the butt now became a half cylinder that duplicates the curvature of the inside of the tang (3/4").
Unless I spilled the beans, one would never know! The match is virtually un-detectable.
This makes a "Hawken" style buttplate a snap install.
Just set it on track, and inlet going straight forward.
The rest is plain old conventional inletting, but you now have a guide to make the inletting very easy. :v
