I just ordered the Blunderbuss kit from TVM. The fellow said he'd be sending a nice curly maple stock. Does anybody try to finish curly maple to look like cherry?
30 years ago I was a foreman of a furniture making shop. We did use some stains on maple for reasonably successful cherry looks. I can't remember exactly what we used. We also did a lot of work with real cherry and it wasn't unheard of to get a piece with what we called 'rays' or 'tiger stripes' that resembled the look of curly maple.
I'd like to get something of a good rich cherry look, a reddish brown and not a garish red. Any suggestions?
I've decided I'm going to get into building but I want to start slow. I've doen a couple of Dixie's level 1 pistols. Eventually, I'll be doing more since while flintlocks are nice, they just aren't as cool as a matchlock.
