Hey y'all! I'm stocking up on tools for my first flintlock build and I'm a little daunted by all the chisel options/requirements. What is your most used, commercially available chisel for carving/inletting? Mostly looking at Pfeil brand because they're what's most readily available around me.

Hello & Welcome. First off I am 98% near completion of my Kibler colonial kit and I had no wood carving experience so I can only give you my knowledge from that prospective. If you are going to carve on a solid block of wood then you'll need some serious chisels & hammers beyond my abilities. The Kibler kit (wood) is so finely fit that all you need is a small set of Xacto knives, Really. I chose to do a little decorative carving and wound up using only 5 carving tools. A 2mm V-gouge by Pfeil (med. size). Self made: 10mm skew, 10mm straight, 3mm slight curve and 3mm straight chisels. As an amature no hammering, just small precise cuts especially on my curly maple. Using the slicing motion rather than straight in pushing. Hope this helps...............Labrat
