Quoted from the current ‘Trade Gun” thread in the Smooth bore” forum. “Just for comparison, and to show some of the markings, here is a reproduction of a very fine old Belgian Northwest gun lock, from Chris Hirsch. Note the "Fox in Circle" stamp, generally associated with the old Northwest Company but frequently counterfeited:”

the top picture is my lock plate that i have been trying to find the maker, and the pic below was stolen from the Trade Gun thread. would the members here agree that i may have one of his lock plates?

They look very similar, the fox is a bit different in the mid section looks a bit fatter. Not being a builder I would say as close as it gets for a repro.

It sure does look like it! You can go directly to Mr. Hirsch's web page through the link in that other thread. He has photos there of the assembled lock, inside and out, and the original gun from which it came. He also has a short story about the gun and the lock. The dimensions provided for the lock plate were 6" x 1". That photo of the assembled lock was "appropriated" from his website before it was put in the "Trade Gun" thread.

There was another thread, I think in the "Pre-Flintlock" section, that provided the name of a lock-builder who has assembled high-quality locks from Mr. Hirsch's parts sets. I forget who it was, though. It looks as if it would take some skill to put one together.

Best regards,

Notchy Bob

I did that after i posted the thread. I will need to contact him to get my missing screws, and possibly some advice on how accurate the witness marks are. The lock plates are pretty identical right down to the squiggles above the circle fox. I think they are letters of some kind, hard to tell

What link in what other thread? I keep seeing people referencing his castings, but I can find NOTHING as far as a website or products or anything.
