OK, will someone please explain to the Idaho boy what a "Chunk Shoot" is? I give.
Thanks, Idaho PRB :peace:

It generally shooting over the log kind of thing I believe that's where the name chunk come from. Shooting over a chunk of log. I could be wrong some of the guns are chunky too.

The gun must be supported by your body in the back and the chunk has to be flat and you are allowed to lay a sand bag on the chunk at least at the York shoot down in Pall Mall Tenn. They shoot at 60 yards and beef & hams is the prizes they win. They had over 200 shooters this year.

Some of my local ML club members just came from the 13th annual Alvin C. York Chunk Shoot this last weekend.

I'll guess for you. ::
As I understand it, it is a target shoot.
I read it is done lying down on the ground (blankets are ok) resting the gun on a "chunk" of wood like a log.
This kind of shoot is for patched round balls only, and if The Bevel Brothers (NMLRA Muzzle Blasts writers) are any indication, Flintlocks are popular.

I don't recall what distance they shoot at is.
Anyone like to chime in?? :)

I'm really glad you clarified that! I thought the question was concerning our overall shapes.

Like I tell my doctor: "Shape????? I'm in shape. My shape is round."

Chunk gun matches are shot prone over a log (chunk) at 60 yards. Usually, only traditional guns with primitive sights are allowed. Each shooter gets 10 targets. These are placed under your sighting frame. The shortest string wins. The sighting frames all very from shooter to shooter. Most shooters staple the target (10 targets=10shots) underneath the sighting frame and doesn't show. It is removed after each shot and replaced by a new one. The target s may be moved around but usually isn't a good idea.

You shoulda heard the rest of the comments my doctor made. Went somethin' like this:

Doc: You need a stress test.
Blah: Do I have to study and does this office visit count as extra credit?

Doc: We need to draw some blood.
Blah: I gotta red crayon.

Doc: You are over weight.
Blah: No I'm not, I just got more volume compared to mass, that's all, my ratio is off a little.

Doc: You'll feel a little pinch...
Blah: I said the same thing to a women and she slapped me!

This aging thing, it sucks!

And don't forget when they ask

Doc: What phone number to call in case of emergency ?
Woody: Call 911

Doc: Sex (M or F) ?
Woody; None
