Paul V. has been telling everybody here on the Forum to use Circle-Fly over-powder wads to gleen the highest performance from their muzzleloaders. I am here to tell you that they work really great and helped me win the rifle competition today at our annual August Novelty Shoot!

Using my .50 cal Lyman trade rifle with a .018 pre-lubed pillow-ticking ox-yoke patch combined with an over-powder wad enabled me to shoot my .490 Hornady round balls straighter than I ever have before.

We started the competition to hit the gong at about 35 yards. Then we moved back to 50 yards. At these ranges I used 70 gr of 3Fg Goex. At 60 yards I raised the charge to 80 grains and at 75 yards or so I raised it up to 85 grains. Each shot I held the same point of aim at the middle of the gong. I was the only shooter to hit the gong at the longer yardage.

I am really happy that I took Paul V.'s advice and used the Circle-Fly over-powder wads. I feel that they made the difference and kept me right-on target, even with 85 grains of 3Fg! Also Kudos to someone I can't remember here on the Forum for giving me the idea of raising the powder charge and holding the same point of aim at a small gong target!

Thanks guys for all of your advice, it WORKS! :) .
