Each year at the Mansfield, LA state battlefield park, we do a "Halloween" event. It is this Saturday night if any are in the area. It is an unusal event in two ways--it is not your typical Halloween event, and it is not your typical Civil War reenactment. We set up groups or individual reenactors scattered in the midst of the woods in the park that portray 'scenes' that may have been encountered the night after the big battle was fought there [largest battle west of the Miss R]. The most elaborate setting is a field hospital with field surgery going on. Other scenes might be of wounded and dead soldiers lying around a campfire, wives searching for their husbands [alot of locals fought here], a wounded enemy soldier alone in the woods, gun at the ready, etc...Visitors are led through the woods on a path in small groups to come across, sequentially, the various scenes of the horrors of war...in the distance occasionally a small firefight is heard as groups wander about and encounter each other in the dark...it is an effective experience, and has become a popular event locally, although it gets little press...
