Im wondering why so many of us landed in the 22% area of Claude's survey. It might be of intrest to see how old we are when we got into this, I was about 22/23 the start of the 70s , I was also into AR's CAR's and MAC 10's, 11's but nothing was as fun as takeing the CVA long one out and spend it seemd a hour to load it and shoot, Good part was it sure slowed the world down for me for a little while. Anyone else? :hatsoff: off to you Claude for whatever reason your running it I hope a lot of the guys get on it. Fred :hatsoff:

Started about 17. Was hunting a lot and got tired of being able to kill nearly anything that was in range of vision with those scoped centerfires. Took a lot of sas around the camp when I started showing up with a muzzleloader. I haven't looked back sense.
Fox

i bought my first flintlock in 1983, so it's been wow, that long... i'm getting really OLD... how very depressing- i guess i need to go burn some charcoal and that will make me feel better.

My stepdad got me started when I was 14 with a flintlock kit. Since then I have dabbled with all types of guns, but like the muzzleloaders best. I'll be 42 Monday, and still get that butterfly in the stomach feeling when I take out the BP shooters. I'm hooked for life, I guess.

:shocked2: Being a "Lady" I refuse to give the original age on the grounds it will definitly incriminate me into old age groups or with the other "geezers" on line here. :blah:

I was given a replica Remington BP Pistol in .36 cal when I was 15. The trigger broke the first time shooting it. Saved my money and bought a Ruger Old Army when I was 16. Was 22 when I finally got serious and bought my first BP rifle.

I am 25 now and just got into bp this year. Came out of me wanting to build various kinds of matchlocks, wheellocks and the like. I don't know if it really counts as me doing bp yet seeing as all I have done so far is research and starting a project. I have yet to fire one and am itching to get the chance.

I'm a late bloomer, just turned 50 this year and just starting into black powder...
Scott

I was about 20 and I just turned 44 on the 11th. My black powder firearms outnumber my "modern" ones. But for all the fun I get from shooting them the real joy comes from watching my boys shoot. We start rendezvous next year!!

Started at 14 or 15, back in the 1950's, rifle was an original .36 caplock with "Cast Steel" stamped on the barrel, that was the only marks on it. Was told it was what was called a hardware gun, as that was where most such cheapies were sold at.

I'm relatively young compared to you wisened gentlemen, but love it and have been doing it for awhile. Started seriously about 16 and am now 31. I don't even look forward to the rifle hunt anymore, I'm all about the hard stuff (archery and BP) but especially BP.

fred, somehow claude volunteered to put up the survey..or put up with the survey, and we appreciate it very much :winking: ,it will be interesting, BUT it was WV HILLBILLY who got this thing going :applause: :applause: ........and we'll give ole WVH a pat on the back fer startin it...besides we gotta blame someone...! RC

I started muzzleloading at 12 years old. Mom bought me a CVA kentucky rifle (caplock). I thought I was king of the wild frontier. I remember my first "powderhorn" was actually one of those leather wine flasks that you can buy in the sporting goods department at the major chain stores.

I'm 34 now.......my 2 gun interests are flintlocks and AK-47's. It's a heck of a combination but it works for me.
