how do you bone users do it? i have some moose shanks/lower leg just above the hoof. need to clean them for various projects and carving. normally i cut and boil them, and then degrease them. i use the stock for soup. i have recently heard that they should not be boiled. what do you guys do?

I boil/simmer them in vinegar, makes them easier to work, less brittle and take any stain you may want

do you boil them in straight vinegar or add vinegar to the water? if the latter, what water to vingar ratio do ya use?

Slow boil till clean of all meat ,gristle etc.. Then place in a class container or plastic with clear water and about a half cup of Clorox. let soak a few hours and rinse well with clean water. let air dry, bone will be bright white takes a dye well and does not become brittle.

Simmer in water containing Biz laundry additive. Will clean bones better than anything else I've found.
