I was looking at a few horns I have to make a powder horn. The one I like still has bone-marrow inside. How do you get this out ? Thanks

If you put the horn in boiling water for a while that should loosen it enough to be able to get it out. On real stubborn ones first drill a piolet hole in the base of the core.Screw a small lag screw or a # 12 wood screw into this hole. This will give you something to get a hold of when you try to pull the core. The more twist that there is in a horn the harder it will be to get the core out.
Hope this helps

If the horn is pretty old, you can set it somewhere out of the house (garage, shed etc.) and fill as much as possible with white 2% vinegar and let if set for a few days. Usually the dried core will soften enough and almost fall out. Check and keep adding vinegar daily..... Some even just soak the whole horn in vinegar, but never needed to try that method, as the first method has always worked for me!

Once you get the core out, let it dry and then take a ball hone and attach it to your drill and it does a great job of cleaning up and smoothing out the inside. I think they are also called cylinder hones and can be found at auto parts stores. Here's a link with a picture in case you don't know what I'm talking about. http://www.brushresearch.com/flex-hone-tool.php
