I've got an old brown jug that I picked up at garage sale. It had apparently had a corn cob for a cork and it had been pushed into the jug. It took me a while to get that out! Anyway now I have a jug of dubious cleanliness. What is the best way to get it clean enough for my next batch of pie!

I'd wash it out with a Clorox solution and rinse it real good. Lots old potters used lead glaze. Something to think about.

May sound crazy but dump several a them Denture cleaning tabs in there(Polident)n let er rip. Just don't cork it up as the pressure might pop the top LOL.

 Because some of the glaze carried lead or maybe radio active glaze , a quick check with a metal detector and a giger counter would tell you if it is good. I have one with a crack, a plastic bag inflated in inside the jug solved all these problems, I found a fancy tea pot once that sent the giger counter off the scale..,no it didnt glow in the dark. Bob

Was it yellowish green?

Uranium yellow was a common "earth" color before the bomb...

In the glass collection community that's called "Vaseline Glass". It has Uranium in it and will glow irridescent green under a blacklight. The common colors for Vaseline Glass are yellow and green [both will glow under blacklight].

I like the denture cleaning tablet idea for cleaning a jug.
