I remember trying to open my school locker in the dark. No cell phones with flashlights then. Was in high school when we kept DST through winter. (1973-74.,)
As I remember it, a huge factor in NOT repeating it was that we had a freakin' BLOODBATH nationwide in terms of schoolkids being hit in the dark , either walking/riding bikes to school, or waitng at bus stops. The sun did not rise until the end of my second class each morning. At class change after first period, the sky was still pitch-black. Had been in school an hour and a half before legal shooting light (1/2 hour before sunrise here in Florida.)
DST was intended strictly for summertime, in an agricultural setting.
