Here are some thoughts from our cowboy heros that if followed may just lead to a better world to live in.

Hopalong Cassidy's Creed for American Boys and Girls

The highest badge of honor a person can wear is honesty. Be truthful at all times.
Your parents are the best friends you have. Listen to them and obey their instructions.
If you want to be respected, you must respect others. Show good manners in every way.
Only through hard work and study can you succeed. Don't be lazy.
Your good deeds always come to light. So don't boast or be a show-off.
If you waste time or money today, you will regret it tomorrow. Practice thrift in all ways.
Many animals are good and loyal companions. Be friendly and kind to them.
A strong, healthy body is a precious gift. Be neat and clean.
Our country's laws are made for your protection. Observe them carefully.
Children in many foreign lands are less fortunate than you. Be glad and proud you are an American.

Gene Autry's Cowboy Code of Honor

A cowboy never takes unfair advantage - even of an enemy.
A cowboy never betrays a trust. He never goes back on his word.
A cowboy always tells the truth.
A cowboy is kind and gentle to small children, old folks, and animals.
A cowboy is free from racial and religious intolerances.
A cowboy is always helpful when someone is in trouble.
A cowboy is always a good worker.
A cowboy respects womanhood, his parents and his nation's laws.
A cowboy is clean about his person in thought, word, and deed.
A cowboy is a Patriot

The Lone Ranger Creed

I believe that to have a friend, a man must be one.
That all men are created equal and that everyone has within himself the power to make this a better world.
That God put the firewood there, but that every man must gather and light it himself.
In being prepared physically, mentally, and morally to fight when necessary for that which is right.
That a man should make the most of what equipment he has.
That "this government, of the people, by the people, and for the people," shall live always.
That men should live by the rule of what is best for the greatest number.
That sooner or later...somewhere...somehow...we must settle with the world and make payment for what we have taken.
That all things change, but the truth, and the truth alone lives on forever.
I believe in my Creator, my country, my fellow man.

Roy Rogers Riders Club Rules

Be neat and clean.
Be courteous and polite.
Always obey your parents.
Protect the weak and help them.
Be brave, by never take chances.
Study hard, and learn all you can.
Be kind to animals and care for them.
Eat all your food and never waste any.
Love God and go to Sunday School regularly.
Always respect our flag, and country.

Roy Rogers Prayer

Lord, I reckon I'm not much just by myself,
I fail to do a lot of things I ought to do.
But Lord, when trails are steep and passes high,
Help me ride it straight the whole way through.

And when in the falling dusk I get that final call,
I do not care how many flowers they send,
Above all else, the happiest trail would be
For YOU to say to me, "Let's ride, My Friend"
AMEN

hey! What about the Boy Scouts? They have a creed that sounds just like this.

Oh, my yes. This was the era of my youth. I have Hoppy's rules framed and on the wall above my desk. One of the things I always look forward to is to be able to sit down on a Sunday afternoon and watch an old Hopalong Cassidy movie. In addition to being a wholesome role model, Bill Boyd was a great American. I'm a big collector of all things "Hoppy". This Christmas, my daughter got me an original Hopalong Cassidy cap pistol (unfired) for my collection. Would that our youth had such heros today!!

Dangit, ya beat me to it. :) All of them words boil right down to the 12 points of the Scout Law

For them as forgot or never knew...
A Scout is...
Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, Reverent.

Not to mention the Scout Oath, about honor, and Duty to God, Self, and Country:
On my honor I will do my best
To do my duty to God and my country
and to obey the Scout Law;
To help other people at all times;
To keep myself physically strong,
mentally awake, and morally straight.

People now days neeed to instill these values in their children. If they did the world would be a far better place! :redthumb:

These are what I was raised on!

God Save This country!

Think things have changed for the worst in America.... :imo:

No they have'nt....it needs people like us to raise our families to have values.....we just need to out-produce all the other idiots!

You statement above is true, but from where I sit I would guess only 15-20% of American Families are like they were in the 50

I was going to add the one my dad lived by "shoot straight, keep clean, fear God, honor the Queen"...when he came to the US, the "Queen" became the constitution...his explanation to me was "shoot straight...do your job correctly;keep clean was both physically and mentally, fear God was Fear God, and the "queen I've already explained...but the discussion has kind of veered off to a discussion of society today. I've figured out that I'm older than most of you, which gives me no special advantage beyond having just seen more of society. I'm sorry to say that I agree with most of what's been said here.
One on one, you can teach a son or daughter the right but in this day and age of Political correctness..it gets harder for them to follow...they are cursed for being "judgmental" or "intolerant" and so on.
Someone gave the Scout Creed, and it made me wonder how many of us have thought of involving ourselves in Scouting...with 2 buddies, I ran a troop back in the '60's and it was a great experience..I've once in a while run into a former scout, and am proud of whom they've become. Scouting itself seems to have become a poor shadow of the force it once was, but individuals can bring it back...in my troop, the boys all bow-hunted...mommies who objected were invited to place their little dears elsewhere...
I've been giving money to the Scouting Legal Defense fund, and it's brought scouting back into my mind. Actually, the ACLU's attacks on Scouting are the best thing to happen to it in a long while...enemies can only make you stronger if you fight...sorry for ranting on...Hank

And still out here typing in cyber space, at your age-I'm impressed. :haha:

Just found this thread myself. We held an Eagle Court of Honor last night (the first since I became SM). We had an ASM who is also an Eagle read "The Voice Of The Eagle" as a live eagle was brought in from the Nat'l Eagle Center in Wabasha, MN.

The best part is that you could put this young man's picture next to any of the creeds listed above. As I told him last night at his ceremony, he is not a young man who is defined by the earning of the rank of Eagle Scout, but rather the rank of Eagle Scout is defined by young men like him who achieve it.

One of the Problems both Parents & Teachers face today is there are FEW TOOL to discipline Children.

My Mother use to WHIP MY A** with a Military Web-Belt when I screwed up. :)

The BELT made her point. Teachers use to Give out Swats for Bad Behavior.

No today Circa 2005 you touch or child, or send them to bed without a MEAL, and
it is CALLED CHILD ABUSE

I remember my grandmother saying something similar about my dad's generation; may dad saying something with the same effect about my generation and I certainly speak of the good old days when criticizing my sons for their modern ways. The fact is my kids, their friends and most kids today are good people with inherent good values. Same as it ever was when I was watching Hoppy and Roy and Tonto and Davey, and my dad was listening to old time radio, and my grandmother was hearing the stories of the Kalevala. We would see the world as a better place if we chose to see the good in people instead of what we consider bad.
:m2c:

I can recall my father telling us kids we had it too easy and everything was handed to us on silver platters. He grew up during the depression during the 30's.

My grandparents also said we (this included my parents) had it way too easy. Why they didnt have electric lights, gas stoves, flush toilets or even automobiles back in the 1890's-1900's.

Times and morales change. Todays youth still have their codes, and most kids do the right thing. My neighbors son (he is 14) goes over to an elderly neighbors house across the street and shovels his drive and walk every time it snows. He does this on his own and wont take any money from us or anyone else.

There is hope yet!
