Anyone been to Colonial Williamsburg? I am going there July 12-15 and was wondering if I could get some of my details on my project build ironed out with the folks there. Anyone had any experience with this place?

I spent several hours in the gun shop this past winter. Really worth the time, and the folks are first rate.

With the press of other visitors, I doubt you will get much help, unless perhaps you catch them when there aren't many folks around right at opening time AND whoever you are talking to takes a personal liking to you and your project.

Having said that, all those folks come out of a commercial gunsmith shop not too far away (can't remember the name right now). You might make an appointment to meet with the folks there, and I bet your time would be better spent for getting answers.

Don't pass up the gun shop at Billburg, but don't get your hopes up.

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of project are you building?

Right on Brownbear :agree: I lived 37 years in the Yorktown/Williamsburg area and visited the gun shop lots of times. They will sometimes talk to you--- but mostly about their guns---- not much intrested in yours. A side note--- if you visit the King's Arms Tavern (a classy resturant) you will see the resteration work done by my G.Father,Dad, and Uncle about 1950. They built the place almost single handedly with only hand tools in the colonial fashion. :peace:

BrownBrear,
I am a little confused by this. What do you mean they come out of a commercial gunsmith shop not to far away? ::

There's a high end muzzleloading gunsmith shop in a nearby town. I haven't been there yet, but the smiths at Billburg told me they all work there, while spending some of their time at the Billburg gun shop. There may be reference to the other gunsmith shop at the Colonial Williamsburg website, but I haven't dug for it.

Can anyone provide the name and contact info for the nearby shop?

I'd like to know the name and location. If someone knows just send me a private message. Thanks guys for your input and sugjestions!
