A friend of mine has two unfired Signature Series (1860 and 1862)pistols. They are unfired and include the box, manuals etc. He is trying to sell them to purchase a new shotgun.I am not sure what they are worth, he is wanting $550 each or both for a $1000, is that a fair price?

It might be a decent price for a collector however I think it is a bit high for a "shooter".

Those folks who want a gun for "just lookin'" or for putting into a glass topped box and hanging on a wall will probably be happy paying that much.
There is also the "It's a Colt" one uppmanship that goes along with owning one of these but if a person is really interested in playing that game they will be looking for the Colt "Second Generation" guns rather than the 3rd Generation "Signature Series" models.

My 2 cents...
If you're going to keep them as 'unfired Signature Series Colts', absolutely!
If you're gonna shoot them...no.
You will devalue them by 20-25% after you snap the first cap to collectors.
If you really want shooters, you can get a nice pair of Ubertis..NEW!!!...for about half that.
Your call....
