I was ordering stuff from The Possible Shop last sunday and thought one of these would be really neat to use for my pistols. First, let me say I ordered Sunday night and had my items wed in the mail. I was really surprised and excited....

Ok now the flask it has an adjustable push-type spout on it. Ive read the instructions but cant get it to throw a constant charge... Im talking from 15 to 45 gr differances.... Im using 3F goex.... Ive tried differnet speeds. I would push real fast a few times and measure each charge... real slow and everything in between..... Let me clarify.... Each time i oush real fast i would get differnet charges thrown and the same for the other speeds. I know you need to push the same way each and every time but I just cant find the touch...... Does anyone have any experience using an adjustable push type spout?

I am not quite sure what you are describing as a Push type spout. However, I found in trying to load powder from a brass tube screwed into the flask on my metallic flask, that used a spring loaded gate to open and close the flask, that I had to hold the flask upside down, with my forefinger over the top of the brass spout, then shake the powder down into the spout while I held the gate open with my Thumb. Then I closed the gate, and put the spout over the chamber of my cylinder, and moved my finger aside to let the powder drop into the chamber. Only then did I get any consistency in the amount of powder thrown with each attempt.

I think you have to help " Gravity " to feed powder in any of these devices. And shaking the horn or flask the same way and the same number of times to fill the spout is the only way I found to get any consistency in loading at all. I spent an evening weighing powder charges as I tried different techniques. It was a major bore, but Once I found what worked, I stopped worrying about it. Only when I use a separate powder measure did I get better, more consistent throws of powder.

I still recommend that you use any spout as just a convenient " funnel " to get the powder from the flask to an adjustable powder measure, preferrably one with another funnel attached to the measure so that it pivots out of the way, but can be put in a barrel, or chamber to focus the powder as its poured out of the adj. measure. For small caliber revolvers, they make a measure to throw up to 50 grains, in 5 grain increments. It does not have a funnel attached, but shooters usually buy a funnel with a handle attached to use in loading their revolvers. For the .44 caliber revolvers, you can use the same adjustable powder measure sold for use with rifles and shotguns.

Ya I have been using one of my adustable powder measure to measure the throws.... the push type is simply turn the flask upside down and push down... I have been shaking to ensure the tube gets filled... This flask has a stopper on the end with a small brass rod that runs all the way through. So you dont need to put a finger on the end and worry about the powder coming out.

When it comes to black powder, I learned long ago to NOT trust anything mechanical. I don't trust those pins, or gates to function on a humid day, and they rarely exceed my expectations.

Your experiences may be different.

Wow. Sounds like a segment out of a magazine or something. :rotf: :rotf:
