The lever usually falls down on mine when I'm shooting regular powder.
It's a common occurance that upset the original users of the gun. I don't know why though. I mean when a few hundred Indians are attacking you and that dam lever falls....

The lever lock was one of the first features added to the new First Model Dragoon.

I can't comment on the triple 7 because I refuse to pay that much for powder. :(

zonie :)

1 eye,

If the lever doesn't fall down under a full load in a Walker, most likely your pistol is broken!!! :haha:

With a full load of Pyrodex P(60grains) you're looking at around 1100fps. With Goex FFF about 1300fps. Triple seven is going to be right on par with Goex, perhaps a bit better, but per the manufacturer you're supposed to reduce the charge by 15%. I'd stick with Goex personally. The cost isn't worth the gain in my opinion. (unless you REALLY hate the cleanup)

Thats what black tape was made for! :hmm: :rotf: If anybody has found an easy fix for this

Imaginos, at Sixgunner.com, threw up a great post about the Walker's loading lever.

He said they (period correct) used to use rawhide, wrapped, sewn, and dried to fit over the end of the loading lever like a sleeve. this would keep it in place while firing but could easily be slid forward off of the lever to reload.

Well said ,Mr.Davy!I have some strips of leather that would work well tied around the barrel. So am I to understand this was common practice in 1847?Best regards,J.A.

Another common fix was to retrofit a loading lever latch, which is what I did w/ my Italian Walker. Used a Remington stud & slide. Works fine, just need to be sure the spring hole in the end of the rammer is drilled striaght. Didn't do that w/ my Colt "3rd generation", I just live w/ the lever flopping down, although I will say it does it less than the Itialian Walker did.

GOT THAT RIGHT DAVY and FULL LOADs TOO! the leather thing sounds just right I'll have to try that one i was going to go with a latch too. Fred :hatsoff:
