if it's the 1851 u.s.grant in .36 1971 commemorative with blue satin in walnut box, it's a very much "keeper nib" - provided there is 'ninteen seventy-one' engraved on the left side.. last msr in 1971 was $250; now worth $750 blue book and $1275 on dixie.. only 4750 were made in 1971.

the box should include an "L" shaped wrench, two cavity mold, and tin for caps.

i've been watching one on gunbroker at auction and it doesn't quite get what the owner wants.. seems his reserve is over $700 because the few bids are always $600-650.

1971 u.s. grant commemorative

~d~

ps. seems the reserve has been raised to $895 !

$600 is a OK price. I track the Grant and Lee prices on GB. $650-700 is about the average for a 100% set. Considering you get a quality case that would bring $100+ on Flea bay, the flask brings about $150 on flea bay, the mold about $50. You could part it out and have a shooter for $300. Terrible thing to do to a cased set.

Keep in mind that any wear, turn ring, anything, makes it less than 100%.

I have the Lee and Grant as separate sets, would like to find the matched set in a single case, those are a bit harder to find.
