Think a gallon of gas is expensive

This makes one think, and also puts things in perspective.

Diet Snapple 16 oz $1.29 ...... $10.32 per gallon
Lipton Ice Tea 16 oz $1.19 .......$9.52 per gallon
Gatorade 20 oz $1.59 ... $10.17 per gallon
Ocean Spray 16 oz $1.25 . $10.00 per gallon
Brake Fluid 12 oz $3.15 $33.60 per gallon
Vick's Nyquil 6 oz $8.35 ... $178.13 per gallon
Pepto Bismol 4 oz $3.85 .... $123.20 per gallon
Whiteout 7 oz $1.39 ... . $25.42 per gallon
Scope 1.5 oz $0.99 .$84.48 per gallon
And this is the REAL KICKER...
Evian water 9 oz $1.49.......$21.19 per gallon?! $21.19 for WATER - and the buyers don't even know the source.
(Evian spelled backwards is Naive.)
So, the next time you're at the pump, be glad your car doesn't run on water,
Scope, or Whiteout, or God forbid Pepto Bismal or Nyquil.

when I started working, in 1952, I would put 4 gallons of Sunoco in my car for $1...it covered the round trip to the office. At that time, I believe the minimum wage was 60 cents, so I worked 25 minutes for a gallon of gas. Currently it is $5.75 so at the $2.10 I paid per gallon the other day, if I were suddenly 20 again, and driving my '49 Ford to work, I'd work about 22 minutes to pay for a gallon.
Not much different, except the old Ford got about 15-17 mpg, and my Subaru Forester gets 22 City, 28 h'way....

Hank, don't forget about the savings on points and plugs. A kid in the office had never heard of points in an automobile.

i still have one of little allen screw driver thats bout 2" long that on my pontiac you had to lift the little distribitor door to adjust the dwell by opening or closing the points with it.........................bob

Baldbaron, having started with a '29 model A, and lived through a lot of cars where I held the amount I'd spend on gas to "just enough" 'cause I might need the rest of my money to get home, I don't long for "the good old days" of cars...at a recent antique auto parade, guy next to me said,"they don't build 'em like that anymore..." and I said, "Thank God"...
I think that the A's points could be set on a matchbook cover, and the plugs on either a dime or a nickel...the timing by taking the plug out of #1 cylinder, putting your index finger in the plug hole, having the engine cranked enough to let the index finger touch the top of the cylinder, and then the pin re-inserted in the timing chain...most of this I learned standing beside my A on some highway as some old guy who'd once had an A would stop out of pity and help the kid with the broke down car...boy am I glad for modern cars! Hank

My mother-in-law (late father-in-law) has a '31 Ford Model A Tudor touring sedan. The frame and motor a have been finished for over 15 years , but the body has never been started on. He always wanted a coupe body for it, but never "got a round to it". I guess all the Model A bodys would interchange, even the trucks.

One thing thet's "gauranteed",.... gas price "goes up",.... the price of everthin else "goes up" to!! (so what's "gained" by it all?????) :haha: ::  :youcrazy:

You know.....when the stores started selling bottled drinking water, I swore I would NEVER stoop to paying for a bottle of it! Now I find myself doing just that, since I don't always trust the water source in certain places! Scary, and this from a kid that used to drink well water straight from the pump, out of a mason jar everyone in the family used! As for gas prices, well, my dears, if the wages would go up to cover the rising cost of transportation, who would have anything to complain about?? Going to make going to events mighty hard...........carpool anyone?? Know of anyone who's got enought room to ferry more than their own crew and gear along to any event?? Better charter a BUS!!!!! :haha:

One difference is that off that list I buy 1 bottle of NYQUIL a year & don't use the other stuff. Don't have much choice on the gasoline unless I can make it run on w/s washer fluid.

Hmm thars a thought. I can get that wiper fluid for about $.95. with tax at 6% that's $1.00. at most it's $1.50 :hmm:

I just need to find a way for the "shine" to quit vapor locking when I use it as a gas supplement

I ain't been off'n the place fer two, three days now, gas might just cost as much as water at the rate it were goin' up.

As for car pools, they're great, until the driver gits his last 40 winks on the freeway. :shocking:

Well, that's not entirely true. There is something you can do about it. When I was a teenager, I met a girl at the Miller Hill Mall in Duluth, Minnesota. I was 15. Sadly, her home was on the Iron Range, Eveleth, Minnesota to be exact. Well, I got her address and phone number and after talking on the Phone to her for a week, the ole teen hormones kicked in ::. My predicament was I lived in Twig, Minn., a good hour drive away. So I did what I had to do. I HITCHHIKED every time I visited her. Yes, hitchhike to work, to the store, where ever you need to go. Let someone else drive you around and let them pay for gas

Ever time I "hitchhiked", I always wound up further away from my destination then when I started!! :hmm: :: ::
