Have any of y'all coned a pistol barrel?
My Great Plains Pistol is a bear to load and since I have the tool I was thinking of coning it.
Any thoughts?

I've got a few old CVA pistols that have marginal accuracy, I was thinking about coning them at least they would be easier to load and I'm thinking it might even help with the accuracy.

I coned my TVM pistol with a Joe Wood coning tool so I can load it off my hip. Came out great and I get one inch five shot groups at 25 yrds
:hatsoff:

i bought one about a year ago. it cost, if memory serves, thirty five to forty dollars. s&h was free, and joe is a very accomodating fellow. even if i only use the tool once, it was cheaper than having a 'smith do it.

good luck with your project

Do you know the price of Joe Wood coning tool ?

$39, free shipping in the U.S.

I just finished coning my pistol. I did one of my rifles the other day.

The tool works great and Joe is great to deal with.

Don't mean to sound stupid but how does coning/crowning the muzzle give tighter groups? Whats the science behind it...thanks.

It may or may not improve accuracy. Coning eases loading by allowing you to thumb start a PRB and load without the use of a short starter.
