Dropped a Green Mountain replacement barrel in my Hawken .50 cal. Yesterday my buddy and I were shooting and I had to adjust 6 clicks to the right to get it back on the target and into the black. The last time out I had ended with two shots just off the bullseye so I was surprised at the yesterday's events. I am using 65grains of fff. Any ideas or is this normal?

When you say clicks are you refering to a scope?
If so, maybe when you were shooting before the crosshairs didn't settle in completely when you adjusted it.
After I make an adjustment on a scope I tap it a couple times to makes sure the crosshairs are settled in.

If you're not talking about a scope then I/we will need more info on your setup.

no it is not a scope just the adjustable rear sights that came with barrel. The screw head was pointing at about 10 o'clock and after yesterday is now pointing at about 3 o'clock. I brought that end of the screw from the left to the right which I figured was about 5 to 6 clicks.

Take a look at the rear sight base attached to the barrel, Mine has 1 screw in the base, but two screw holes in the barrel, causing it to loosen consistantly. Also GM barrels are notorious for sharp lands that cut patches, run steel wool over a jag up/down the barrel to remove. GM barrels are great shooters , so have patience.

Duct tape, for when it's not supposed to move and it does. :rotf: Barrels fresh from the factory may not have the screws as tight as they should be For real check the sight base. locktite on the screws, then resight it in. Black powder guns really don't need adjustable sights for normal hunting ranges out to 100 yards. Ya might consider a change. Just my two pence. By the way if the sight is adjustable, and doesn't move then ya need WD-40. :blah: Bill

Could mother nature have changed the way the wind was blowing?

A few clicks from a metalic rear sight is not a huge adjustment. The T/C sights are MOA per click and I guess the Green Mountain sight will be close to that.

Good luck as others posted you just may need to break it in. :hatsoff:

You might try to remember if you were shooting to one side of the sun one day (morning) and to the other side (afternoon) the next. This will cause optical effects on your sights that can make you shoot off. I remember sighting in a pistol with iron sights and at 50 yards I was shooting 8 inches lower on a bright day than on the cloudy day when the gun was sighted in. It's more pronounced on a pistol but the same can happen with a rifle. Couldn't figure out why the chickens didn't fall... GC

It's some of my friends!

Goblins move the adjustment screws.

Just like when the angels pee in the priming.

Sometimes I move the target just as you pull the trigger.

Us spiritual entities have to have some fun on occasion!

We are the reason competition shooters get sighter shots before matches.

Thanks ghost, now I can rest better since I know it is not me, never thought it was anyway. Now when I miss a shot I will just tell my friends your family's playing tricks again. :haha:
