Howdy, I am thinking about converting the breach plug in my H&R Huntsman from the plastic orange disk{want something more permant & that can't be lost} to the T/C 209 fire ring system ie. better overall ignition, no little orange disk to lose, ect. Seems to me this should be a fairly stright foward mod. Drill to size for threading, thread, recess to obtain proper headspace and install. Of course a little mesuring and math will be involved but that should not be a problem. The only real problems that I precive are #1 gases excaping through the junction of reciver and breach but H&R allowed for this with the slot for the 209 primer carrier it is susposta vent excess gasses up and to the right away from the right handers face and #2 is that if the flash holes in the fire ring stem are in the right vacinity for proper ignition of the powder charge. Any and all feedback on this conversion will be greatly appricated. I value the opinions of the members of this fourm and you all will be the deciding factor wether or not I go foward with this. thanks in advance!

AS I don't have the gun you are speaking of, the best advice I can give is to ask this question on the Modern Muzzleloaders section. Maybe someone there has tried this conversion.

The other idea is for you to call H&R to get their thoughts.
They may sell a conversion kit which is already made to do exactly what you want to do. (Then again, if they are making a profit off of selling the orange things, they might not want to promote your idea).
