I was just wondering if changing the lock and barrel on a T/C Hawkens is just a dropin or do you have to do some wood working. Probably better to just get another ml in flint but I was just curious. Thanks ahead of time for the feed back and regards Dave T. :v

I've converted several TC Hawken caplocks to Flintlocks...depending on the age you may or may not have to tweak a few edges of wood out of the way inside the lock mortise.

It seems like in the early years TC had one unique inletting operation for a caplock mortise and another different one for a Flintlock mortise, and the early styles require 30-45 minutes of tinkering/trimming down inside the mortise.

Then in more recent years it seems they went to a generic inletting operation where a Flint lock assembly will drop right in...in either case, it's not a big deal, just have to fiddle with it.

The goal is to get the edge of the Flintlock's pan up tight against the flint breech plug so it sort of seals against it and powder doesn't trickle down into the lock internals.
