Yesterday my neighbor came over with a bag full of venison for letting him and his boy hunt the land.
Added to the meat from Matt85's deer I have a nice pile of meat. I don't feel so bad for not taging a deer myself this year now.

Tonights diner will be marinaded bottom round steaks served with rice and cauliflower.

The marinade is a red wine marinaide I wipped up myself.

That's the way of it, sounds like you've good neighbors.
And that marinade should work Great!! (drool)

Maybe you can whip up some kind of sampler plate for the Ladies group,?,

if it is in season the vegies that is. Eat it we are cleaning out the garden once I get off the computer.

about 20 minutes ago i cooked myself up a steak from the deer i shot on Cynthia's property. i rubbed the meat with Carne Asada seasoning before cooking in an open skillet with some vegetable oil. half of the package made for a perfect mouth watering lunch!

will be having the other half of that package for dinner.

im glad things worked out for you Cynthia. i felt really bad that we couldnt land you a deer. next year im sure you will have better luck.

Well, between you and Brian I have enough venison in the freezer to take care of all red meat meals I will cook this winter and into spring. I have no need for beef for awhile.
I can't make a shot count any farther than 50-60 yards and I know that. So inviting you to come and hunt was a calculated move on my part. I figured it vastly increased my odds of puting meat in the freezer this year and it did.

Tonights diner is venison helper. (thats where I use venison instead of beef for regular hamburger helper)

I finaly saw a buck on the opening day of the late season regular hunt. He was standing on the road side and just watching trafic go by as he chewed his cud.
Over the last week I have heard a number of single shots around the area. One of them was the unmistakeable sound of a muzzel loader.
I don't think Brian got his buck yet. His son did and one of Sevans cousins was back by the lake and baged a buck. So on this property I know that 3 bucks were taken. The shots I heard coming from the distance were ranging about 2-3 miles I would guess. Also, I do not think anyone has found the 6 pointers yet. Every deer taken in the neighborhood I am aware of has been a 5 or 4 pointer.
So that should make them a 6-8 pointer next year especialy if the neighbors keep feeding them corn and zuchini.
The 3 pointer that is in the neighborhood should be big enough to hunt. If the spike that hangs around is lucky enough to get a fair share of the food that the nieghbors are giving the deer then he could theoreticaly grow a large enough rack to develop the 4 points that will sign his death warent.

anyways. I ramble it seems....

use a meat mallet to pound seasoned flour into the cutlets, then fry in med/hot grease until browned a bit then set out. sprinkle flour onto the drippings and brown it. when brown add about 1/2 can evaporated milk, salt and pepper and a cup of broth or water will do then stir until bubbling. reduce heat and add a can of chopped shitakes then stir well. reduce heat and slip the cutlets into the gravy cover the pan and simmer for 1/2-3/4 hr.
serve over brown rice and yes I like steamed cauliflower with cooking cream sauce atop.
