I never shot at a black squirrel..they have them up north a ways..

That kind of day really lives in your memory. :) We used to have lots of black Fox squirrels here in East Texas. I hardly ever see one now days. As a matter of fact the Cat squirrels seem to be taking over the Fox squirrel range.

The last black I shot at wich goes back some years the ball missed and hit the tree and my brother shot him with his shotgun. Havnt been hunting them for awhile , you had a good day there

'round these parts, there are far more black phase greys than actual grey's. In fact, if you see a grey, it's unusual.

Anyone ever got a white one(some call albino) but i
understand they are not because of the lack of pink eyes.
I've seen many but have never got a shot at one. Maybe
like the white buffalo(only smaller).
snake-eyes :hmm:

There's not as many black squirrels where I hunt as in other areas of the state, so this late season blacky last year was a bonus.

More years ago than I would like to admit, before I knew that muzzleloaders existed for any one but Fess Parker, my brother and I were hunting and killed a black fox squirrel ont of a tree. Went back the next weekend and killed a whiteone out of the same tree. Wish I still had those hides.

Lots of white ones around Olney IL. Towm frowns on killing them though. They are the tourist attraction.

In Olney, IL, you can be fined for running over a white squirrel with your car or if your dog or cat kills one. It's like a sacred landmark there.
Here in town , we have some red squirrels with black bellies. I've seen one with a white tail and another with a white belly. They must be breeding with the stray Calico cats or something.
