I have a T/C hawken and I really have no need for a patchbox. What I am thinking is cut a piece of silver the same shape of T/C patchbox without the lid (make it solid) and then engraving the silver so that it is more a piece of artwork then an actual box. What do ou think?

Sounds like a fun little task.

You mention engraving so I have to add that if you plan on having a professional do that, it's going to cost some money. Perhaps a lot more than it's worth, but then again, only you know what it is worth to you.
If you are doing the engraving and you have experiance then no problem. If your engraving looks like my engraving, it may...should I say...detract from the beauty a bit?

Have fun!

If you do decide to engrave it yourself, practice on plenty of scrap brass and aluminum before your final attempt on silver. I think it would be nice, the replacement idea you have. Good luck and send us pictures!!!!

LOL, I too long ago added engraving to my list of things I do badly.

At one time, I had access to a very nice little jeweler's pantograph engraver. If the cutter was sized and sharpened right, it did nice work on flat stock from templates, but could in no way compare to some of the hand engraving done by the experts.
