Has anyone ever tried making one of these? I believe the actual name is a "cressett". I would love to make a couple for my backyard, but haven't settled into the shop to crank a couple out yet.
At the Eastern years ago, there were two located outside the "Asylum" (drinking establishment).

manure. I can't figure out how to post a pic. If you look up "colonial cressett" as a Google image search, you'll see one.

If I recall correctly, one Thanksgiving they had some outside at night in Colonial Williamsberg. Cold night, and they were pretty darned effective.

Yup, been around these. They are really coool (no, I mean hot,,,No I mean...) They provide more light than heat though and I think that was the original idea. The ones that I saw were quite high, around 7 ft. I would guess which made feeding them a bit of a struggle. Also they didn't have the screen in them that is shown in these pictures so burning debris fell to the ground freely. I've always wanted to make a couple of them.
