Good morning all. I just received a. 32 Crockett rifle with a Wilson peep sight. Came with 319 balls .I guess I have to get out and try loads just wondering what you all think .Start with 20 gr and work up to 30 .I also saw that .310 was recommended. Too much info out there. Lol.

319 and thick patch in mine is virtually impossible to load. I stsrted with 15gr 3f, 311 and various patch thicknesses. Worked up to 25gr and it blew the hammer back. Mine likes 20 gr 3f ole e and a .016 patch or abouts.

Not shooting a Crockett, but I typically sight my 32s in at 25 yards to be an inch high (think chin hold on a squirrel) using 12 to 15 grains of 4F or 3F Swiss under a patched 1-1/2 buck. Find this load about an inch low at 50 yards.

For general range shooting I use 20 grains of 3f under a .310 swagged ball and .010 precut and lubed patch. I have also used .015 precut and lubed with the .310 balls and rarely .315 balls with .010 patches. The tighter combos may be a little more accurate and would be my choice for actual hunting, possibly with an increased charge. I have not tried any stiffer loads yet though, the 20 grains is so much fun on the range.

I ordered a Crocket rifle last night from Midway along with .315 round balls and some .018 pillow ticking patches, plus a Lee mold and can't wait to start working up a load. I have some other patches somewhere if the .018 doesn't work. I had my wife watch a few videos of others shooting the same rifle, so I'm hoping she will start using the Crocket.

@scottbeverly2024 I purchased one last week and sure enough my wife likes it. It doesn't kick at all. I set up some reactive targets and she hit them all. She was intimidated by the length and recoil of my Kibler SMR in .45 but not the Crockett. I just wish the Crockett was available in flint......

BTW I am using .310 swaged balls with Ballistol "dry patch" 7:1 lubed denim with very good accuracy over 20 grains of Swiss 3F. Rifle did shoot high for me so I swapped in a taller front sight.

My .32 flint lock with 42" Rice round groove barrel likes 25 grains of 3f with a .320 ball in a .015 mink oil lubed patch for dime sized groups at 25 yards and about 1" at 50 yards. My Pedersoli Pennsylvania .32 shoots best with 15 grains of 3f with a .315 ball in a .015 mink oil lubed patch. This gun has a 1:48' square grooved 41" barrel. 3/4" groups at 25 yards and 1.5" at 50 yards. Every barrel and gun will like a different load recipe that you will have to discover. That's the fun of BP shooting.

Great news! I can't wait for my wife to try it.
