I picked up a CVA Frontier Carbine with 24" barrel for $100. Barrel and bore in excellent shape no rust but it was made from a kit and the builder lacked wood working skills so I am cleaning it up. Questions: will the CVA Hawken/Frontier Rifle adjustable rear sight fit the carbine? Has anyone tried to fit the CVA set triggers to the carbine?
Any other improvements recommended?
TIA

I bought my 24" Frontier .50 several years ago with my intention being to use some of its parts on another CVA. Its bore looked like orange fuzz when I bought it for $25 and I thought it was a goner. To my surprise all but a couple of freckles mid barrel cleaned up with some extended scrubbing. I ended up turning it into what I call my mini-Mountain Rifle; I fitted butt plate, trigger guard, patchbox and thimble from a parted out CVA Mountain Rifle. I put a home made apeture sight on the tang. I've never really liked the CVA adjustible sights; I toyed with the idea of putting the Mountain Rifle rear sight on it, but I can't see well enough to hunt with that any longer. I just stuck with the original lock and single trigger; they are smooth enough for me and I'm not sure that I would get anymore out of the 24" barrel with the set trigger.

To find out if set triggers will work on your gun you need to test the lock to see if it has a fly in it.

To do this, first make absolutely sure the gun is not loaded.
Then, pull the hammer back to full cock.
Put your thumb on the hammer spur and then pull the trigger. Use your thumb to hold the hammer after the sear releases it.
When the hammer starts to fall, lighten the pressure your thumb allowing it to start to fall fairly rapidly towards the fired position.

If the hammer stops at the half cock position, give it a very light tap with a screw driver handle. If the hammer stays in the half cock position, your lock does not have a fly in it so, you cannot install double set triggers.

If the hammer seems to hesitate slightly around the half cock position but continues to fall to the fired position, your lock does have a fly in it and you can install a double set trigger. One word of warning about this though.
The size of the trigger guard loop must be long enough to allow room for the rear "set trigger". Some trigger guard loops are too short so the double set trigger won't fit into them.
