I have a new shooter asking about loads for one, and I have no personal experience with them. Anyone care to suggest some standard loads?

Thanks,

20-30grns 3f .015 prelub patch an a 490 ball.
Mine groups best around 25grns.

I'm thinkin' a .490 ball might be a tad large for his .44 pistol.

Some of those older CVA .44s took a .433 ball if I'm not too mistaken. :idunno:

Mr. Spence, is there any way you can measure the actual bore diameter of that barrel?

The 20 grain suggestion is what I used with good results. I had an early .44 flintlock from CVA. I used a .440 ball and a thin muslin patch. Then I started using those poly patches (this was back in the late '70s)Didn't know much back then. I ended up modifying that pistol with a shoulder stock :rotf:

No, this is just someone who contacted me by email, don't know him or have access to the gun. He only asked about powder charge, for now.
