Purchased a CVA, 45cal, Kentucky pistol very cheap at a pawn shop. It was a kit gun that someone took very little time assembling. I spent a lot of time rebuilding it. Does anyone know what the maximum powder charge this pistol is rated for?

I too have one of these pistols. I don't know the maximum load for it. But---I do have a CVA booklet that came with my CVA Colonial pistol kit and it has a table in it that recommends on a .45 pistol:

.440 round ball, .015 patch thickness, and 20 grains FFF for minimum loads, and 40 grains FFF for maximum loads.

I hope this is helpful to you. I shoot 30 grains FFF in my Kentucky pistol.

That's good advise,
I have the Traditions Performance Firearms book (near same as CVA)
Lists 15-20grns of 3F as most accurate
35grns 3F as max.
Much more than that is just wasted as smoke an noise.

In mine I use 20 grns. Of FFFg and a .440 cast ball With a .015 patch lubed with my home made lube I make and sell works great for a target load
