went to get my hunting license today, while looking at the pistol case spotted a cva pocket police revolver kit. is $145.00 too much for this kit ? it is a brass frame revolver.

IMO, it's on the high side because it is a brass framed kit.

CVA imported their longrifles from Ardesa in Spain.
Ardesa is still producing many muzzleloaders and nearly all of the Traditions guns were made there.

The CVA pistols were made in Italy by ASM (Armi San Marco), a company who off and on made some fairly good guns but also made some poor ones.

For example, I have a CVA 3rd Model Colt Dragoon and the workmanship is excellent. I also have a brass framed CVA Colt 1848 kit gun that isn't worth a dump.

If I were to guess a fair price for a brass framed CVA pocket police revolver kit it would be around $125 or so.
Even at that price your taking a chance that it will work as well (NOT) as my 1848.

I agree with Zonie, $145 is a bit steep.
Since CVA is now devoting all it's efforts to :barf: inlines :barf: and this is certainly "new-old-stock", if you still would like this I would try to haggle the dealer down to at least $100 or less.

I say run away... I still remember the CVA revolver kit I bought back in the 1970's. At the time I was sure that they used all the factory 2nd parts in the kits so they couyld get a return on them.

Save your money and buy a well timed, well fitted, factory revolver.

Cap and ball revolvers are a true joy to shoot (to me) and what I shoot the most round to round of all of my black powder arms.

Just my personal opinion after owning both kits guns and factory guns.

Cheers,

David

I am embarrassed to say I bought one, a few years ago. Now it is in a shadow box, hanging on the wall. The only thing it is good for is scrap for brass, and replacement parts for another one I have. After my experience I would not ever never buy another one. But it does make a purty display.

If you really have to spend that $145.
Get a Uberti 51 Navy, and you won't be sorry.
They work! Plain and simple.
They are in pawn shops every where, look around.
The CVA Remington pocket pistol that I had, was pure junk, like most CVA stuff.

we dont have pawn shops here in pennsylvania, so ihave to just keep looking in the gunshops

I would imagine, that you're better off at a good gun shop anyway.
Years ago, I hunted deer near Williamsport.
Good hunting, great people, and nice country.
I also found some great gun shops.
Here in Ontario, Canada, gunshops are all but non existant, few and far between. Each and every day it is getting more difficult to find a shop.
Almost nobody carries blackpowder stuff, other than the "i.l.ne crap"
All the best
