bought this as a junker, half destroyed but most parts, is cva with brass frame and round barrel.
need two screws for the backstrap. unable to locate small head capscrews and the diameter/thread for these. can anyone help?

To my knowledge it's the same frame as the 1860 Army.(?)
Dixie Gun Works has these parts listed; http://www.dixiegunworks.com/default.php?cPath=22_434_435_442

If those are the wrong parts cruise around the DGW link most of the "reproduction" revolver parts are interchangeable within the specific model.
Colt parts are Colt parts,
Remington are Remington,

I bought this 1851 Colt for my brother in 1969 from EMF which was made by RAG and there are no parts for this gun. The screw size for the grip and trigger guard is 3.5 mm X .6 pitch. I made the screws that are in the foreground - originals are in the background. I made them out of drill rod. They are harden and tempered so as not to get marred up. Pietta and Uberti use 4 mm X .7 pitch screws for there grip and trigger guard screws and also for some of the other internal screws. You can buy taps and dies at a very reasonable price from "toolsavings.com" good luck.

Capt john: Your CVA was most likely made by Armi San Marco. Look for the marking " ASM " on the bottom of the barrel.

You can get manufacturer specific screws/parts at VTI Gun Parts. Screws are pricey @ $4.50 each plus shipping costs.

If by "cva police pocket" you are refering to a .36 caliber, six shot, 1851 Navy size frame then the 1861 or 1860 Armi San Marco listings on VTI should be the same as what you are working on.

I have one of these, 36 caliber, brass frame. It's a decent copy of the Police Pocket model with a brass frame. It was a kit gun, bought years ago. Usually shoot 15 grs 3F with a cast .375 RB. Good accuracy and lots of fun to shoot, really like it.

didnt cva make a brass frame 5 shot police on the rebated 1849 size frame?

You and bubba15301 are correct. CVA made a Colt style 1862 Pocket Police .36 five shot on the rebated 1849 size brass frame. Have owned several of them.

They also made a short round barrel brass frame .36, six shot ' Navy ' which is why I included the following in my reply since we should more clearly define what model ASM revolver we are discussing: " If by "cva police pocket" you are refering to a .36 caliber, six shot, 1851 Navy size frame then the 1861 or 1860 Armi San Marco listings on VTI should be the same as what you are working on. "

If the O P has the small frame five shot ASM then on the VTI Gun Parts Armi San Marco parts section they should look at screws under the heading "ASM 1849 Pocket" to get the right size.

I probably should have referenced both models in my first reply and better stated the need to define exactly what model was being discussed. :v
