I'm trying to identify a CVA revolver. It was described to me over the phone by a non bp shooter, so I don't have any pix.

It's stainless steel with the grip frame in brass.
5 shot, probably 36 cal, no top strap, barrel around 5 inches. Made in Italy.

I'm thinking it was a pocket pistol variation of the Navy Colt. Any help, gentlemen?

Not enough information to be precise, but:

5 shot .36 cal makes it likely an 1862 Pocket Navy (octagonal barrel):

or Pocket Police (round barrel):

The 'brass grip frame' applies to both.

I don't remember CVA ever offering stainless guns, but they did make a number of nickel plated variations, some engraved and some plain. It's more likely nickel than stainless.
