Is it just me or are cva .490 roundballs a lot bigger than hornadys? The other day I was at the farm store and saw that they had cva roundballs for $2 for 20 balls. That's cheaper than what they sell hornadys for so I bought them. I couldn't get them to start with the .015 patch but the .010 patch went down somewhat tight but very manageable. Thanks in advance.

All I ever found around here are Hornady.
I'll have to look closer next time I go
to our local Cabela's wanna be sporting store.
Anything is possible.they may be a shade bigger.
Might be .495's labeled wrong.Find some calipers.

To my knowledge, CVA- the gun company-- never made or sold round balls. Unless you actually measure the diameter of your bore, and the diameter of the round balls, you can't possibly know what you are buying or using in your gun.

GET A CALIPER, and use it to answer these questions. Dial calipers are available for less than $25.00 from most of the suppliers listed here under " links". A good dial caliper will serve you the rest of your life, assuming you take good care of it. The ones made in China are just as good( or bad) as those made here, and cost less.

Those balls you bought just may be very much oversized, and you spent your money unwisely, simply because you didn't actually know what you were buying. Don't hesitate to take rulers, tape measures, calipers, or micrometers with you to any store to measure what they are selling. You are not the first shooter to buy something he can't use. All of us have Lots of " Trade items" we have picked up over the years. :rotf: :shocked2:

IF these balls were mis- marked, take them back and ask to exchange them for correctly sized balls, or for your money back. :hatsoff:

No, I can use them with a .010 patch and it goes down very snug. My shots were right on top of each other but were shooting high at 30 yards. Which reminds me. What can I do to my rear sight to make it shoot lower. The gun shoots fine at 50 yards but I want the gun to shoot flat at 30 yards or even 25 yards.

You'll either have to file down your rear sight(assuming it's fixed) or get a taller front blade.
