Damascus steel

Has anyone ever used a section of a damascus shotgun barrel for a knife blade? How did it turn out and what did you do to form it?

I dont recall of ever hearing of someone trying it dont mean it cant be done. It will be on the thin side unless your getting it from the breach end you will need to heat it to flatten, then shape it witha angle grinder or sander or just plain old arm power ,harden and temper then acid etch it to bring your pattern out

Unless it is high carbon, and I would doubt it is, it will not make a "good" knife. just a knife.

If the piece of barrel long enought you can make a pipe hawk out of the it, it well take alot of work and some forge welding.
