Dark Stock Stains

If you prefere a very dark stock stain on maple, is there any reason to order a stock with alot of curl? Will the dark stain hide the curl? Thanks.

I've never stained one that dark? Don't know. If I was going to stain one real real dark. I mean almost black I don't think I would waste my money on high grade piece of wood though.

Use 3 parts Fiebings medium brown leather stain, and one part of their USMC black. It will be dark, but the curl will show through. You might get away with a tad more of the black, but try it on a piece of scrap first. After you apply it yo the scrap, rub it with 0000 steel wool , then just wet it a little, and that's about how it will look.
