Dating Colt Signature Pocket Navy

Buddy of mine just acquired a Colt "Signature" 1862 Pocket Navy 5-shot revolver. It's in new, never fired condition, but the shop owner said it was made a while ago and is no longer available from Colt. We looked all over the pistol and packaging, but couldn't find any indication of when it was actually produced. Anybody out there know how to date this piece?

The best you're going to be able to do is interpolate based on the serial number. Colt did not use date codes. The Signature Series Pocket Navies were made between 1996 and 2002. Unfortunately I don't have the Signature Series serial number ranges; perhaps someone else can provide it.

It's estimated that 2500+/- 62 Navy P's were produced but no one is really sure of that number. Many 3rd gens went out the back door.

I can tell you take from watching the on-line auctions the 62 navy P is one of the lesser seen 3rd gens or 2nd gen for that matter.
