My buddys talked me into going deer hunting this year, these guys use those things that we dont discuss on these pages, so needless to say I need to have my act together. I am going to use my Lyman GPR 54 cal. cap lock. Is 80 grains Goex fff suffient for a shot of 25-40 yds. Will be in a tree stand. Thanks
Gary

I and my fellow hunters regularly kill deer and elk with the .54, 80 grains of ff or fff and a .530 rb at ranges out to 75 yards on elk and past 100 on deer (too far for my eyes but some of the guys see better than me! :( )

 My personal favorite recipe for Lorraine is a .530 rb in a .015 Cotton patch, set on top of 75 gr of FFg Goex bp. This is Lorraine's favorite load. The longest shot/harvest was a 127 paces on a broadside feeding whitetail. It was a pass-through double lunger.

I just harvested a buck with my flinter. Full story in Flintlock section. The buck offered me a broadside shot at 25 yards. 70 grains of Goex 2FG was enough to send a .490 roundball completely through the deer behind the shoulder for as humane a kill as I could give him. Good luck with yours.

Thanks guys, at the range she shoots a .530 RB with a .015 cotton patch and 80 grains goex FFFg really well and I didnt want to change if I didnt have to. :hatsoff:

Sounds like everyone covred it pretty well. Your in good shape with that charge/ball combo. Have you practiced though from a stand yet??? Might want to take at least one shot in a simualted situation before going. It kind of sounds like you don't want to let those folks down with your front loader!
