here are some pics of my 1860 that I've started to defarb

I've reshaped the grip slightly, taken off the barrel markings, and added a taller front sight.
You can't see it very well in the photos but I also cut a cap grove into the frame like the originals.
.

I just received a set of Treso bronze nipples this morning and installed them but it's snowing
and I can't shoot it yet :(

Hey Galen, looks like you are doing nice work. Will you rust blue the barrel and grip frame when you are done? When I made a bird grip-snubbie from a Pietta kit, I did the same as you and rust blued the frame. The barrel markings were automatically taken care of with the "bob job"!

I haven't really decided yet weather to try to rust blue it or just let it get a natural patina.

It looks kinda cool with the blue cylinder, silver barrel and new golden nipples :rotf:

Galen;
Why stop there?
Finish the defarb on the frame and strip the frame & cylinder and let it age for a nice, even patina.
Once you have it where you like it, oil it up and leave it.

I like that you were able to remove the horrible lawyer stampings on the barrel, they ruin the looks of the gun. Was it difficult to do?

I used a small 2oz ball peen hammer and lightly peened the lettering till I closed it up then it only took about four strokes of a file to clean it up followed by 320 grit and then by 600 to take out the scratches

Nice work on that '60, it's a lovely piece. Very cool photos too, good to see.

You mentioned that you had "reshaped the grip slightly". Did you alter the angle on the backstrap and/or was it the wood you reworked? It is looking great.

Tapping out the 'lawyer language' on the frame the way you did was a great idea. Had not heard of that method before. Leave it to a machinist.

More photos tracking your progress would be both interesting and informative.

"Hays, America" I like that. Merry Christmas to you sir and to all the troop, from coastal North Cali ...America. You bet.

Thanks. G Dog

I trimmed the bottom of the backstrap a bit to get rid of that sharp hook the Piettas all seem to have, then trimmed the wood to match.

I'll post more pics when I gte a chance to work on it some more.

And a merry Cristmas to you and yours also

Galen
