Dickson and Nelson Build

Hello,
I hope someone can point me in the right direction or help me out. I'm looking to get a reproduction Dickson and Nelson Rifle built. The Dickson and Nelson rifle started out being built in Alabama but had to move to Georgia because of Northern Troops in the area. They are based on the 1841 Mississippi rifle but they have some of the characteristics of a 2-band Enfield. Below is a link that has very detailed pictures of the rifle. I'm not sure if the best path is to buy a Pedersoli Mississippi rifle and then replace the stock or take a different path. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

This is a very cool project. I think you'd be better off buying an old 1863 Zouave rifle to get the barrel, brass barrel bands, brass trigger guard, lock & bolts, brass nose piece. You can get an 1841 stock from Dunlap Woodcrafts and you can order it without the patchbox and without the side plate & inletting for reproductions. Your only problem is finding an 1841 buttplate with no notch for the patchbox. But you can fill in the notch with a brass patch & brass colored solder from Rio Grande. It is doable, but a lot of work.

Thanks Mike. Great tip. I didn't realize that the Zouave and Mississippi had the same barrel configuration. I would be much better off purchasing the Zouave instead of the Mississippi as you stated. Should I buy the Pedersoli or the cheapest I can find such as the Antonio Zoli since I'm just going to be using it for parts? Any idea on the best way to get the lock restamped?

I would try contacting Lodgewood Mfg. I believe he has done Model 1841 plates before. He might have the Dickson and Nelson info.
