Last day of deer season, I went out for an afternoon hunt more out of tradition to close out the season than any real expectation of getting any more deer, as they’ve mostly gone nocturnal now.
But sitting an oak flat that has produced in the past, right before black dark I saw movement coming out of a thicket, turned out to be a couple Does”¦they weren’t very big, but my season was minutes from ending, I had a needy family that would take her in a heartbeat, I hadn’t hunted my .50ca Dickert in a couple seasons, so I decided not to look a gift-horse in the mouth and put her down at 35yds...high shoulder shot, dropped in her tracks.

.50cal Dickert / 90grs Goex 3F / .022” OxYoke patch / Hornady .490”

Congrats on your last day of the season harvest! Great photo and gesture to the needy family. :hatsoff:

Congratulations on another deer for your friends. Nice looking rifle and picture. You always provide nice pictures. Leon

Well done Roundball...I don't know whether to clap or cry!!?? I gotta figure out the secret to getting deer and not every squirrel in 6 counties to hang around where I'm hiding! Good going! :hatsoff:

Congrats again Roundball

Squirrel season still open or is it time to tune up for turkey season???

Squirrel is open through the end of February here...need to clean/reorganize/put away deer hunting stuff today/tomorrow, then get the squirrel hunting stuff organized, start taking a few walks for them later this week

PS:
Dragged her out / up onto the Hitch Haul, made a U-turn and in my headlights there was what looked like a good 8 pointer walking across the road just 75yds away...going into the same woodlot I just came out of...so if he survives the highways, there's at least one good looking buck in the area for this coming fall

You have had a heck of a season. Next to a plain ol Southern rifle, a Dickert has to be my favorite.

Interesting story on this Dickert...bought it used while waiting to have my first build completed...came with a straight 7/8" x 42" GM .45cal barrel on it, but in spite of being a good sized guy, after a couple range trips I knew I could never still hunt with it as it was just so terribly nose heavy.
Sent the barrel off to be rebored to a .50cal with round bottom grooves, and refinished the stock, upgraded the Chambers siler to a Chambers deluxe siler. The larger bore removed 1/2# of weight from the front and it became a good weight, tack diving Flintlock...took a buck with it that fall.
But then my TVM builds started to arrive and the Dickert took a back seat...was time to drag it back out for a few hunts and glad I did...this is it in good light:

I'm sure you wouldn't have any trouble finding a new home for that rifle if the time should ever come.
