I bought this beautiful 45 caliber rifle ANNB from the late Thad Scott last fall. Almost too fine to shoot but I finally found a proper .452 mold for it and am getting started. I'd like to know more about the builder from Yakima WA, his other work etc.
FYI the Lyman tang was made up for a planned Bison hunt as the original vernier tang was fine for paper but not a hunting sight. I'd also love to be able to scope it with one of the reproduction Malcoms but the hammer is 1/3 over bore so.....

Beautiful custom rifle, although I know nothing about the builder. It has many characteristics of English rifles of the middle third of the century. I really admire those guns!

Sorry i can't help you more.

Don Brown passed away earlier this year. Besides building repros. (yours appears to be the Alexander Henry sporting/target rifle) he also sold locks, breech plugs etc for others to build there own. His work was always highly regarded.

that engraving on the lock is a just plain cool, and that jumping lion really set the whole thing off.

congrats pard on the fine shooter!

I have long admired Don Brown's work and was going to order a kit--basically the same configuration as yours. I did manage to put together a .45/1-18 muzzleloader and hunted with it for several years. Yesterday I bought the english sporter built by the late Craig Kern on TOTW--a .62 RB gun. When you get tired of yours let me know.

Hi MrHumble, that is one georgeous rifle I hope it brings you great success both in the field and at the range, Regards, Peter B.

P.S. Does anybody know the source of the Alexander Henry rifled barrel for this rifle? Did Don Brown make them himself or was it an original ?

I knew Don pretty well, very talented man. He bought most of his barrels from Ken Owen, I believe.

 Actually it a Tiger (complete with stripes!)
If someone really falls in love with it, they could own it for $5000 plus S&I.

Considering the quality of the rifle & the engraving that's not an unreasonable price. That front sight looks like it might be one of the excellent South African-made ones, do you have any additional inserts for it? What does the tang sight that came with the rifle look like?
