I took the double barrel .12 ga MLer out and shot it with rd balls yesterday. I only had 25 yds to shoot at, but here is a pic of the group. It is 4 shots (2 from each barrel). Load was 100 grs. of Pyrodex RS, a thick overpowder wad (that is glued to a 1/2" fiber cushion wad before lubing so there is just one wad to mess with instead of two seperate steps). The a .690 rd ball was patched with JoAnn #40 Drill cloth lubed with Crisco and cut at the muzzle. I picked up the fired patches and they still had lube on them and were good to go again as a pre-cut. That .690 rd ball weighs 1 1/8 oz. That should make a Grizz stopper, and two fast shots. I checked the load in the second barrel to make sure it was still seated after firing the first barrel, and it hadn't moved. Anyway, check out the group. It isn't the best group i have fired with rd balls, but not bad.All shots are touching and about 2"-2 1/2" above point of aim. Should be about on at 50 yds. Wish i had 50 yds where i could try it.

I did the same with my sxs's and get the same results, your groups will shrink a bit more if ya dump the pyro, and go black, my no longer made traditions single shot 12 likes 75 grains goex a .010" linnen yes linnen patch lubed with t/c bore butter and and a rapine .715 ball it puts them in , I just recently took first place at the Georgia state champoinship with it, and only problem with it is at the healthy weight of (loaded 5 lbs) it kicks like a tennessee blue jack mule, but have been out in the woods hunting deer with it. sure do love me smooth bores , still working on shot development , only gotten serious with shot in the last 2 weeeks but ran out of #4's got to wait untill next week to get to the shooting goods store for a couple bags of shot, going to get #5"s and #6"s that sould be better for tree rats, doves, and turkeys right now it throws acceptable 30" patterns at 25 yards, and the wad combinations can really change the patterns too. bb75

Amazing how well these guns shoot. I use .690 and .015 spit patch, 100 gr.2F and mine is 0 at 50 all in about 4" offhand.

Amazing how well these guns shoot.

Are double barrels inherently more study to hold on target because of the extra weight offered by the second barrel?

Yea, i have gotten better groups before with it. This was the first time i have shot it with rd balls in over a year. I took my first wild turkey with it this spring using 95 gr of Pyrodex RS, an over powder wad, 1 3/8 oz of #5 lead shot and a thin overshot card. I have taken a whole lot of doves and quail using 1 1/8 oz of #7 1/2 shot, and a lot of ducks and geese using #1 steel in a heavy plastic steel shot cup. I also have shot a lot of jackrabbits with it using 1 1/4oz #5 lead shot over 95grs of powder. It is a great all around gun, anything from mice to moose.

I don't think it's the weight but having 2 barrels soldered together gives a stiffness to the barrels that only a very heavy single barrel would have and I believe the eye is more easily centered in the space between the barrels than on the top of a single barrel making for more accuracy.
Whatever the reason, it's amazing how well they shoot.

:haha: I have a sight from a GPR that I no longer have, and I've been trying to think of a way to put it on my double barrel without compromising the weld. I guess I may just try super glue. Is yours radiused to fit down between the barrels?

Flash, yes it is. I ground and filed it to fit. It also happens to be an old GPR sight too. :: Sure makes a difference in shooting rd balls out of it. And doesn't interfer with me shooting shot. Just make sure it is centered in the rib and you should be on for windage. For a more permanent fix you might try some JB Weld or 2 part epoxy.

Thanks for the info. That pretty much answers the questions that I was mulling over.

:front:

Now I know what to do with the extra GPR sight :D You say it doesn't interfere with shooting shot? :hmm: Is that a Pedersoli? Might have to try roundballs in my 10 ga. s x s.

No, mine is a Navy Arms made by Pietta with cylinder bore barrels. I have had it for years, and fired quite a few hundred shots through it, Mostly shot loads, and have never had any trouble with it.

Mine didn't come with the sight, i took an old GPR sight and ground and filed it to fit in the rib, then just Super Glued it on for a temporary rear sight.
