With the doves moving out of the area faster than I can get out, I'll more than likely call it a season with none taken with the flint fowler. :surrender:
It has been a "successful" season non the less and the following is the short version.
September 5th was my first chance to get out and I was ready, or so I thought. It was a very foggy morning and the birds didn't get moving until around 10:30. I had half a dozen decoys on the ground where birds in the past come for there morning gravel, plus two spinning wing decoys among them. My 20 gauge fowler patterns great but I hadn't tried any wing shooting ever with a flintlock or that gun. Anyway, after several missed shots and a couple hours, I called it quits for the morning.
Fast forward to the afternoon. This is where the rest of this years seasons change. :(
I took a co-worker along and introduced him to the pleasures of shooting an original two row percussion 16 gauge. We had the dekes set up and I moved the truck about a 1/4 mile away. As I was walking back to the hunt spot, I managed to trip and fall over my own 14's. It hurt bad but I managed to hunt the evening missing a few shots again as did my friend.
After a sleepless night in pain I headed out the following morning. Still hurting from the fall but had a very memorable hunt as I had a Redtail hawk come in and bowl over two of the decoys.
Ends up I have a broken rib and others that are bruised. Needless to say, I won't be bow hunting for awhile. But as a bonus, that gives me more time with the front stuffers.
Our archery deer season opened today as did the fall turkey season. Instead of hunting deer with the bow this weekend, I'll be chasing three toes with the fowler, and that is a good thing.
Here's a couple photos before the fall.
I wish I could of gotten pics of the hawk but I just sat there with the camera at my feet and watched in amazement.

As a side note, I've broken my share of bones through the years but dang, this rib hurts! :surrender:
At 53, I'm too old for this kind of thing.

Good luck with the turkeys and hope you recover quick. Post some turkey pics when ya get him!!! Good luck.

Wait till you have to sneeze, brings a whole new meaning to the word pain. Hope you recover soon.

My dove season is a little slow as well. We had a good number of birds the week before season started, but they moved out real quick. Right now, it appears as if we currently only have resident birds, in small grps. of around a dozen. The fields are coming off fast, so the birds are hard to pattern at the moment as food sources are becoming everywhere. But, the birds will come down and if you are there, it will be great!

My sympathy on the ribs. Been there and done that. Yes, a sneeze is a very memorable experience! :(
