Drago Powder?

Hey all,
Been trying to track down some bp here in Western NC. I just got a message from a gentleman listing the powders he sells over his counter: Wano and Drago at $12.49/lb and Swiss at $19.95/lb.
Swiss was the only one I recognized, but his prices seem steep to me on all 3.
Has anyone encountered the 2 odd brands? Are his prices reasonable?

Wano and Dragon powder are one in the same, Chinese Fireworks grade powder repackaged for sporting use. There's nothing wrong with it other than the granules vary in size, the occasional twig, and it burns dirty. Locally here (Maryland) you can get it for around $90 a keg (25lb bag) and $108 case (25 1-lb cans).

Wano is GERMAN gunpowder. I have some. It is good powder, but it is "dirty" (unsifted). There's a lot of powder dust in it. It is known as being a bit harder to clean. The dust in the powder adds mass to the charge, which is supposed to be a big boon to cartridge gun shooters, who have a limited case capacity...they can get more crammed into the case. Actually, it is probably closer to the quality of gunpowder of the 18th century...

What does Swiss usually sell for?

Swiss pwr from Clarksville Gun & Rod Clarksville, AR Tel # 479-754-8358 sells for $15.00 lb for1 thru 3 f and 10.00 per lb for 4 f. in25 lb lots plus shipping and Hazmat. Swiss is a very good pwr.

Man I hate it when I'm wrong... dang that makes it twice this year....

Wano is German powder. What am I thinking about then???? Chris, you know of any other "W" powder I could be getting it confused with.

Wano is available from Graf & Son, relabled with their private label. It runs less than $10/pound + the inevitable hazmat fees, which are $25 for all lots up to 50 pounds. It works great in my .50, but is too dirty for my .36.

If my memory serves me right, Wano, which is made in Germany, is the company which greatly improved it's powder and is now marketing it under the name Schuetzen.

At one time, Wano was refered to as Guano until some of the later batches of Elephant replaced it as being the dirtiest fouling powder.

Even with the bad fouling, Wano, unlike Pyrodex, at least ignites at temperatures that a flintlock can (sometimes) use. It also will reliably fire in Caplock guns with vertually no hang fire time.

That's the only complaint I have heard (or will offer myself) on Wano powder...it is dirty.
