I'm trying to figure out what the Dragoons of the English Civil War carried as far as long guns go. I would guess that, being mounted infantry, their arms would not differ from the musketeers all that much, unlike cavalry carbines.I need some help on this one. If anyone has photos, please share. Thanks guys.

Robert Ward,1639-
"The muskets are to have a broad strong belt fastened to the stocke of them, well neere from one end to the other, whereby he hangs it upon his backe when he rideth, holding his match and bridle in his left hand....."

George Monck,1644-
"A musket,or good spaphance to a musquet barrel:the which I hold much better for Dragoon service."

Note that the standard musket barrel length of the period was four feet. But muskets termed as "dragoon" muskets had three foot barrels from what I understand.

Prints from Wallhausen illustrating Dragoons show them clothed and equipped as standard infantry not even having riding boots.

Thanks. I see that Monck says snaphaunce are more suitable for Drogoons. That was one of my main questions.

Sorry if I am being a pest, but I am re-posting because I need answers ( or rather pictures if possible). Again, what exactly did the musket(s) the early to mid 17th century dragoon look like? Were they snaphaunce, matchlock, etc? ANYTHING would be very much appreciated. Thank you all.

I am trying to think how to help. What wars are your interest in? What actual countries and units?

What have you found for them so far?
