I took my adjustable loader,,,got a drill bit that just fit down it,set the measure on the charge I was making,put the bit in and marked it with tape......Test drilled in wood first,measure a charge of powder,,I used Corn meal,,,,then just final tune the measure and then make the powder measure you want...

Howdy!

A 1" drill bit drilled 1/4" deep, is the same area as 1/4" drill bit drilled 1" deep.

Im not sure of a formula to give you that will be exact, as it depends on your drill bit, the angle it is sharpened at, the amount of "wobble" in your measure causing material to be removed at the side wall, etc.

IMHO, drill some, check with a known measure using sand or water. Drill a bit more, recheck, drill a bit more, recheck until you have the measure your making containing the same amount as your known measure.

If you drill too deep, fill in a little bit the measure with an epoxy, wait til it dries, and start again.

No. It's 4 times the volume. The volume is proportional to the square of the diameters multiplied by the depth. The 1/4 inch hole would have to be 4 inches deep to supply an equal volume.

Given your depths, the 1 inch bit gives a volume of 0.196 cubic inch. the 1/4 inch bit gives a volume of 0.049 cubic inch.

:bull:
Volume of a hole;
Diameter x pi` x Depth

1 x 3.14159 x .250 = 0.7853975

.250 x 3.14159 x 1 = 0.7853975

With respect, I'd be a little slower calling bull....

The volume of a uniform straight hole = cross-sectional area * depth.

pi * diameter = circumference of a circle, not the area.

The area of a circle = pi * r**2 = pi * (diameter/2)**2 = pi/4 * diameter**2

volume = pi * r**2 * depth

To keep some of my measures small, I have made several that were only 'half charges'. That way, at some primitive events with novelty targets at close range I would use only a half charge to save powder. For regular targets or hunting I would use two dumps.

this is easy, just eyeball it to get it close. See how much 70 gr is in a pile on some paper. guesstamate volume. then ajust.. make my horn powder measure in about 2 minutes..
you can't figure this out??
