well, it's the opener in WI for duck tomorrow and I have my SxS 12 gage ready to go with bismuth shot. Anyone else going with a smoke pole?

The weather calls for rain so I hope it doesn't rain too hard that the powder gets wet.

I have yet to try duck with a front stuffer. I doubt I'll be able to get out this year anyway. Good luck on your hunt. Let us know how it goes. Pics are always appreciated too. :)

My Navy Arms double barrel was all i used for ducks and geese before we moved here. Not much duck and goose hunting here. It is a lot of fun with BP though. We found that #1 steel worked good for ducks and geese. Never tried the Bismauth or other non toxic shot.

The ole smoke pole worked well for ducks. However, the shooter didn;t point the shotgun very well though

I did manage to get a few ducks down and they will be delicious. I did have a few problems with keeping my powder dry as it rained all day. Several ducks got a free lesson when the shotgun went psss instead of boom.

I didn't miss many shots because of loading.

It was still a lot of fun and I can't figure out why more people don't hunt birds with a muzzloader.

I'll be hunting with the muzzleloader again this week, rain or shine. I just have to suck up to the boss as she thinks that the black powder stinks when I clean the shotgun in the basement. :winking:
